Our first Maritime Heritage Night will be spent welcoming our new Facilities Coordinator Emily Jones. Hailing from Ontario with a background in cultural and heritage studies she is eager to meet all the lovely members and friends of the MHS.

1964 Tsunami

Local historian Frank Holm will give a lecture on the Tsunami which struck Port Alberni in '64 and the impact that it had on the community. 

Come hear all about the 16 ft wave that shaped our town.

 

Around the World in a Dugout Canoe

April 23 7:00 Alberni Valley Museum

John M. MacFarlane author of "Around the World in a Dugout Canoe" will be discussing his novel with our members and friends. Diving into the story of 1901Captain John Voss who sought to achieve the world record for the smallest vessel to circumnavigate the globe; MacFarlane sheds new light and sparks discussion on this old tale. 

West Coast Creatures with Peter Mieras, Rendezvous Dive Adventures

Peter Mieras has been diving since 1982 and has seen many different oceans. His underwater photos and articles have been published in magazines worldwide and his underwater videos have been featured on TV, websites and are used for educational purposes by many institutions. We are privileged to host Peter as he discusses what else inhabits our West Coast Waters.
